Zone enabled cluster support not released yet (1.7.0)

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

In the current main branch there is support for multi-zone, which was added about 11 months ago. We would like this to be released and build into new images.

In these pull requests the features got added and the release/version got bumped.
