[RFE] - Ability to see FQDN under "DNS Name" in ESXi

Some customer would like to have the ability in between choosing hostname (hostname) and fqdn (hostname -f) in the open-vm-tools conf file similar to overriding the guest os with short-name/long-name in https://github.com/vmware/open-vm-tools/blob/master/open-vm-tools/tools.conf

Can you provide more detail on what change is requested here, as well as some context?

As an example,
The GuestInfo 'DnsConfig' element reported should have 'hostname' and 'domainname' fields, these should be usable to get the FQDN as reported by the Guest OS configuration. The fields can be unset if the underlying data collection failed or no values were returned.

As such, I'm unclear about the requested change from the open-vm-tools GuestInfo collection.

Some background information will help with understanding the desired outcome.

Also, if we can get information on the environment:

• Linux / FreeBsd distribution and version information (/etc/*release)
• Linux / FreeBsd sample /etc/hosts /etc/hostname /etc/resolv.conf
  Anonymize IP address, hostname and domain when providing samples.
