Shape Detection in images

The Accelerated Shape Detection in Images proposal describes an API providing access to accelerated shape detectors (e.g. human faces) for still images and/or live image feeds, taking advantage of hardware capabilities, when available.

It looks like the CG is very active for the last five years. @tidoust is there a specific proposal that they are advocating? Is this ready for standardization work?

I heard there may be some overlapping work happening in WebRTC / getUserMedia()? Anyone know?
