Stream Deck Integration

Hello!

I am so happy I found this app! it is absolutely amazing!! What would be the best way to integrate with stream deck?

I want to utilize DDC Input source. When I work from home I like to be able to switch inputs between my work computer and my personal computer. I verified that I can switch the input on my monitors with DDC which is great!!

2 use cases I have

1. Switch input from HDMI (Personal computer) to Display Port 1 (work) on both monitors
2. Switch input on left monitor (1) from HDMI (Personal computer) to Display Port 1 (work), and leave right monitor (2) alone

My guess is I just have to set all of those commands as keyboard shortcuts and then assign them to the stream deck to perform my functions?

Also, is it possible to adjust screen brightness with the control knobs on the stream deck +?

Please let me know if I need to provide more details on my thought process or anything.

Well, I don't have a Stream Deck so I am not sure how that works. :] How is it communicating with the Mac? If it's showing itself as a HID device (like a keyboard), you should be able to assign shortcuts to it in the app. If by some other means, you can use betterdisplaycli https://github.com/waydabber/betterdisplaycli to create scripts or issue commands to switch DDC input and control brightness.

It shows up as an HID device. I will probably go the shortcut route. But I'm going to look into the cli as well. That way I can set multiple parameters with a script! Just need to get it installed!

Tried to install with brew install waydabber/betterdisplay/betterdisplaycli and got the below error.

HOMEBREW_NO_AUTO_UPDATE. Hide these hints with HOMEBREW_NO_ENV_HINTS (see man brew).
Error: The following directories are not writable by your user:
/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
/usr/local/share/man/man5
/usr/local/share/man/man7

You should change the ownership of these directories to your user.
sudo chown -R "user" /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig /usr/local/share/man/man5 /usr/local/share/man/man7

And make sure that your user has write permission.
chmod u+w /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig /usr/local/share/man/man5 /usr/local/share/man/man7

also tried the manual installation and got the below error

Ok, I was able to install betterdisplaycli and all dependencies.

getting this error
sudo betterdisplaycli list
Failed.

No matter which variation I try it fails

Hi there, what do you want to achieve? I am not sure what betterdisplay list should do. If you want to get the connected displays and identifiers, use

bdevcli get --identifiers

Perfect! that is just what I was looking for!

So I am trying to switch the input for both of the displays back and forth from DDC Input Source. Between HDMI (LG alt) and DisplayPort 1 (LG alt).

So probably using displayID. and whatever the command would be to switch the DDC input

I'm currently using

/usr/local/bin/betterdisplaycli ddcAlt --vcp=inputSelectAlt --value=0x208 --displayID=2

I identified that my display ID = 2 now I am digging for the command to switch the DDC to DisplayPort 1 (LG alt)

Instead of displayID you should be using --namelike=ultrafine or something like that to make things easier. The displayID is a current system identifier which might change. For a permanent identifier used by the app, you can use the tagID.

Got it. So I will use something like this

/usr/local/bin/betterdisplaycli ddcAlt --vcp=inputSelectAlt --value=0x208 --tagID=3

for the --value=0x"number" would that be the value number in the screenshot I pasted?

So it would be 208 for the value, If I have the correct identifier

It should be --value=208 as this is decimal, not hexadecimal. You need 0x if you provide the value in hexadecimal.

So I am trying this

and getting

I succeed with the command: betterdisplaycli set --ddc --vcp=inputSelect --value=27 --namelike=xxxx

And I guess you should use /usr/local/bin/betterdisplaycli set --ddcAlt --vcp=inputSelectAlt --value=208 tagID=3 instead

make sure you use --tagID=3. The logic is that there are some commands like set, get etc and parameters - the latter always need - or -- (both are ok, use the style you like).
