The combined brightness 160% only adjusts the scale and is relevant only with software upscaling. For native upscaling it is not relevant. If you use software upscaling (combined brightness), you can still adjust the max HDR upscaling by using the calibration feature. But I don't fully understand the settings you are using - what do you want to achieve exactly? :) |

I hope to achieve software dimming with a maximum backlight of 1000 nits to minimize PWM as much as possible. The issue is that I found that on the M1 Pro, setting the screen brightness this way doesn’t cause the back of the screen to heat up, but on the M4 Max, it gets very hot, with a significant difference... |

Then simply configure things exactly like this:
This should give you 1000nits brightness + all software dimming only.
I am not sure why the M4 max would be hotter, it should be the other way around as it has more efficient LEDs.
