OS: MacOS Sequoia 15.3.2 I'm using the native upscaling brightness function. I noticed that it reaches full brightness when the slider is at 93%. If you slowly pull the slider past 93% the brightness actually decreases and then starts increasing as you go up to 100%. So the brightness is actually the same at 93% and 100%. This also causes a visible flicker when using the keyboard brightness keys to go from 94% to 100% (that is the pre-determined step). This is with TrueTone disabled. Interestingly, with TrueTone enabled, the same thing seems to happen at around 90% on the slider, and the flicker occurs between the 87% and 94% steps when using the keyboard keys. |

This is because the slider adjusts the peak brightness, not actual brightness. The actual brightness depends on various factors. If you have a predominantly bright screen with all LEDs at full, the panel will hit a power treshold and the system will limit the brightness. However if you have for example a dark screen or a 10% bright window, the effect will be carried to the full 1600nits for that smaller region. Night shift adjusts white balance and lowers luminosity, that's why the power limit reached at a higher limit. If you mostly use bright scenes and you find the behavior annoying, you can simply limit the max nits to 1400 in native upscaling settings. |
