Non-native Brightness Adjustment on 3rd-Party Displays Flickers and Resets #4291
-
When adjusting brightness on a third-party display using BetterDisplay’s non-native (non-DDC) brightness adjuster—which appears to function by applying a black overlay—the brightness level does not persist. After a few seconds, the screen flickers and reverts to its original brightness. The only way to temporarily restore the dimmed state is to manually adjust the brightness again, but the issue recurs within seconds. As a result, the non-native brightness feature is effectively non-functional on affected displays. |

Hi - if it's not a virtual screen (DisplayLink or something similar) then the app is not using overlay but color table adjustment. If you have other app like f.lux running, that might reset the color table to the setting it wants to apply. Simply disable f.lux (and use the app's color temperature slider to get a Night Shift like effect or use the built-in Night Shift feature of macOS), or disable color table adjustment in BetterDisplay so the two apps can coexist. |
