BetterDisplay freezes and is shown as Not Responding in Activity Monitor

I am using a 2021 MBP with an external Philips 346P1C monitor. The monitor is connected via USB C.
Very often after waking up from sleep or after the screen is turned off automatically Better Display stops working.
In the Activity Monitor it is shown as "Not Responding" and if I hover the mouse over the symbol in the menu bar I just see the spinning color wheel.
The screen dummy still exists and can be used. However, when I unplug the MBP from the monitor the dummy is still there and some apps are shown there which I can't see anymore.
Also the automatic reconnect of the dummy/screen to prevent flickering doesn't work anymore which then causes my screen to flicker till I remove the USB C connection and reattach it.
I don't know if it is related but also sometimes the mouse cursor disappears and I first need to click to make it appear again (if I just move the mouse it stays invisible).

This happens with BetterDisplay 1.2.8 and 1.2.9.

What other information is needed to best debug this problem?

• Is this a 14" MBP?
• With BD 1.2.7 you don't have this issue, only with 1.2.8 and 1.2.9?

yes, 14" MPB with M1 Pro.
BD 1.2.7 has the same problem. Before I tried only 1.2.8 and .9. Just now I removed 1.2.9, installed 1.2.7, put the MBP to sleep, started it again and BD is not responding and the screen is flickering.

Hmm. Which one was the last version that worked? Can you try that? Just so we understand if it is an issue specific to a version or something else have gone wrong.

(btw on your config, enabling native smooth scaling should work much better imho if you want scalable HiDPI resolutions, dummy is not needed for that).

That indeed works much better and does exactly what I want/need.
After a short test it also seems to run perfectly stable now.
As I don't see any need for a dummy screen now, this solves the problem from my side.

I still compared the three versions regarding the dummy problem.
1.2.7.: Installed it, started it, everything looked good, put MBP to sleep, started MBP again, screen flickers and BD crashed
1.2.8 and 1.2.9.: Installed it, started it, everything looked good, put MBP to sleep, started MBP again, only Laptop screen is active, external screen is off, unplugged screen and plugged it in again, everything looked good but BD crashed.
So none of them worked as it should.

I don't need a fix for that as everything seems to run well now, but if you still want to debug this problem just let me know what information you need.
