Take over SublimeGit

I have been using the SublimeGit package for years now, but it is sadly abandoned. The original maintainer has not committed to the repository for 8 years now, despite there being a number of pull request opened by others to contribute changes and fixes. For a year or so, I have been maintaining my own fork of this package, fixing issues and introducing features I needed for my git workflow. It is now to the point where I barely have to touch it anymore, which suggests to me it is ready for sharing. I would like to make this new version available to others, but I am not sure of the best way to proceed.

Should I take over the existing package?
Should I just create a new package?

See if the SublimeText community GitHub org is willing to adopt it?

SublimeGit looks like the predecessor of GitSavvy tbh but the latter has 10x commits.

Usually, you just ask for the takeover, and open a PR here. And issues there. And reference the owners here in your PR as well.

@kaste is right: if you want to take over that package, just make it so via a PR here and let the current owner know. This sounds like good case for that.
