Window doesn't show in Kubuntu 24.10

The program installs ok following the Linux instructions, but when I start it I see the following in the console log:

Update: I tried the new version on 24/2/25 and still get basically the same error:

(This was installed using the lsw-setup script as described in the README, however the start menu item doesn't work so I ran it in a console using the lsworker-linux.sh script and got the output above, but no window ever appeared.)

Sorry for not replying, I wasn't receiving notifications from github apparently.
The lsworker-linux.sh is not the script that you need to start the complete app. After following the precise steps in the README.txt you should have a new icon on your desktop for LuckyStackWorker as well as in your app menu. Simply launch the app using that icon.

Hi, thanks for the note - the reason I was trying the shell script is that the desktop icon didn't work. Running the executable listed in the icon file gives an error about suid permissions: ***@***.***:~/src/siril$ ~/LuckyStackWorker/LuckyStackWorker-linux-x64/LuckyStackWorker [15797:0301/001737.396799:FATAL:setuid_sandbox_host.cc(163)] The SUID sandbox helper binary was found, but is not con figured correctly. Rather than run without sandboxing I'm aborting now. You need to make sure that /home/adrian/Lucky StackWorker/LuckyStackWorker-linux-x64/chrome-sandbox is owned by root and has mode 4755. Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped) I needed to fix the permissions before it would work. It's kind of weird that a program like this needs suid permissions, is it really necessary? Thanks for the tip anyway, it led me in the right direction. It could be worth adding some instructions in the README though. Cheers, Adrian.

I got a response from the linux maintainer:

• "suid" (set user ID) is a way to give normal (non-admin) users access to system-level programs.
• I don't know for certain, but my first guess is that they are day-to-day running their systems logged-in as "root user" (superuser, or administror, in Windows) and not the usual way of signing in as a plain user.
• Or they gave their normal login account permanent superuser privileges and now it's a problem.
• They changed some file permissions (perhaps whole folders) and now it's caused problems elsewhere (like with LuckyStackWorker, for example).
• Their system is mis-configured (as above) and they needed to do "sudo ./lsw-setup.sh" (sudo = 'superuser do'). That will cause the installer to run as root, and root will own the installed files.

I have personally done all of these things, and every time it has resulted in me wiping my disks and re-installing the system. It is not good to mess around with permissions.

No file in my LuckyStackWorker install has suid set, and all files are owned by me (normal user, not root). There is nothing special about Kubuntu — it's not especially secure, or insecure, it's just another distro.
