Vim, is like any tool. 

The more comfortable one is with it, the faster they are with it. Part of the beauty of VIM is that it had the capabilities you're pointing out as "de rigueur" for software today, aFurthermore, as a Linux full stack guy, having a text editor that's available on any system I log into, and configurable with a single file to my peculiar taste is awesome.
