Participant AFQ versus GroupAFQ

Hi, I'd like to understand the main differences between the ParticipantAFQ and GroupAFQ API objects. I was wondering because I ran ParticipantAFQ on some non-BIDS DTI data and received very similar FA profiles to my results from running GroupAFQ on that same data in BIDS format. I also wanted to confirm whether preprocessing via a pipeline like QSIprep is absolutely necessary if we intend to use AFQ to retrieve tract-specific FA data for a set of patients. Thanks!
