Change Agent HandlerId id from private to public?

Regarding Agents is there a particular reason the HandlerId id field is private? I am trying to send messages based on the HandlerIds but the following seems to be impossible.

    Endpoint::MainProcess => {
      let handler_id = self.subscribers.get(_some_handler_id_).unwrap();

      let handler_id = self.subscribers.get(_some_handler_id_).unwrap();
      self.link.respond(*handler_id, msg.1);
    }
  }
}

And by changing it from private to public I mean implementing pub for raw_id()
