File tagging support

Hello. Didn't see it already existing anywhere so I'm posting this as idea.

I maintain a collection of programs that specialize in tagging of various things including the files themselves. superfile seems like a nice program that could have the tags supported across variety of platforms.

It would of course be up to the implementation, but on Linux the tags can be stored inside extended attributes just like on macOS so it only leaves the Windows in question.

Dolphin and CAJA file browsers store tags as a CSV in user.xdg.tags extended attribute so displaying the column with that may be a good start to add tagging support.

I may not help with development itself, but I've classified 49 programs so far so I may answer some question about how to approach certain things when it comes to tags.

Sorry for the late reply, I think this is a great feature. But I don't have a very good understanding of file tags. It may take some time to fully understand it.

In addition, this function does not seem to be very important at the moment, so I will put it on the Todo list, but there is no ETA for the time being. :(

Of course. It's by no means an easy task. Just keep to your current priorities as I can myself say the tagging world is a deep rabbit hole and it can eat a lot of time.

I don't have a very good understanding of file tags. It may take some time to fully understand it.

Naturally I do recommend Tags Overview and and Tags Research articles from my knowledge base above. There's also great video by TagStudio Developer if you prefer to watch instead (it's in bottom section in the articles mentioned earlier).

Few more pointers for whenever you are ready to begin this adventure:

• Here's CLI that can deal with tags on Linux: https://github.com/welbornprod/filetags it's built on xattr which also works on macOS and is regularly updated, but filetags has better readme.
• You will at some point need to make some sort of database or store the tags not only in the files, because if tags are only in metadata (or worse in the files themselves) you would need to scan a whole disk every time when searching with tags and it's not the ideal solution.

Right now we are majorly focussing on

• Bug fixes : Many Layout breaking issues, and other bugs ( See open issues )
• Converting our rendering architecture to async to prevent UI lags
• Getting a sturdy image preview working
• Improve unit test coverage.

For new feature, we have many higher priority features in line at the moment. This might take time.
