Email contact field

It would be nice if there would be an email "Contact:" field for cases where a weblink's contact could be noted. Also nice if there could be a mailout of some/all or some sort of filtered mailout according to the email contacts for project mailouts.

Thanks for working on this. It is really appreciated.

I am suggesting to:

• include an "Email contact" field for the weblink that will not show/show in the public view of the weblinks page. There would be an admin toggle switch allowing admin to choose to either have the "Email contact" "show" on the public view or "not show" -- some of my weblink contacts do not want their email showing publicly to avoid spam bots collecting their address. If this is too much of a coding feat, then at least a field "Email contact" at the input stage of the weblink.

ALSO

• a nice feature would be to be able to group the emails into categories (emails tagged to the weblink category where they were input) so that admin could "group-email" the contacts by category. For example: my site [http://www.EarlyMusicNews.org] has 48 categories. It would be nice if I could email ONLY the contacts from the "/Builders/Restorers/Suppliers / Keyboard Instruments" category or any category of choice. NOTE: I am presently doing this by hand with Thunderbird and have replicated all of the 48 categories along with email contacts.

ALSO ADDING A RELATED FEATURE REQUEST

• if the previous feature request were possible, add a feature where the email addresses could be exported into format(s) LDIF, comma separated, tab.

I believe when a link is submitted it already asks for an email - no?

Yup. However, in most cases, the email is a personal email and not the email contact of the actual weblinked site.

For example, a weblink submitter may submit an interesting website but she/he may not be involved with that particular website. I have found that in most cases of my submitters, their email address collected at the "submitting step" is not the official email contact related to the website link. I have to register the official contact email on my own.

the first part of this is simple technically of course, gathering just another text field.

however it is not the role of Weblinks to create a mailing system, so I don't see any implementation of a group mailer as you have suggested. It may be possible however to simply display a list of unique contact emails on a per category basis. This could then simply be copy/pasted into your email client or other.

It would be terrific, if you could do this. At least it would add functionality to gathering email address.

I wonder, is there a way that this type of functionality could feed into the "user" module but not give the "address" owner any access to the site? Then admin could just email those particular users from the regular Zikula mailer. Maybe that is asking too much.

Anyway, yes, displaying a list would still be quite useful.

Just to clarify a little more, I was hoping more for something like a field for a contact email to someone on the linked site. For example when you "Add" a link, you enter:

• Site Title:
• Page URL:
• Category:

Would it be possible to add an email field like this?

• Site Title:
• Website Contact Email:
• Page URL:
• Category:

This would make the weblinks module more functional, in that there would be a contact email to someone on the linked site. It would be great if there was a way in the Admin settings where the Admin could toggle the view on/off from the users without deleting the email address. This would prevent bots from mining any emails from the website but still enable admin to keep track of emails connected to the websites.

And if anything could be done with my added feature request for this (the previous post right above this). It would add a very powerful feature to the weblinks module.

BTW ... as it stands now, the Zikula Weblinks module beat anything that I have seen out there. For anyone looking to create a mega list of weblinks, this module is tops! I have checked around.
