Can't see sync status indication

Syncthingy autostarts, sits on the tray and launches the webUI but it doesn't notify me of the sync status. I was assuming that the tray icon would change to show when syncing is pending/completed. Was I wrong? Otherwise, does syncthingy only notify the user that syncthing is running and provide a bookmark to the webUI?

As stated in the readme

just the bare minimum: Syncthing and a tray icon

The tray icon does not show status, it is just a way to see that it is running, to open the application settings and have a quick way to open the webUI.

This won't change as any functionality outside of that is out of scope.

Going the other way, how about adding an option for exit once syncthing is started successfully. Syncthingy would run, launch syngthing, display a message that syncthing was launched successfully or failed to start, and exit.

The rationale is that once syngthing is launched successfully at boot, it hardly ever crashes. IME, in the many years I've been using it, when there is a problem, it's because it wouldn't start for a good reason.

This way, users switching that simple option on would only be losing the ability to bring up the webUI with one click, which they can easily achieve with a bookmark or shortcut. They would also be saving 109MB of RAM.

When you open the settings, you can install as system service, that way you have it running in the background without the tray icon.

EDIT: alternatively in KDE you can also just hide the icon
