When you shrink down to a narrow browser width the fluid (liquid) layout should be able to resize wider items to a size where their width fits on screen. Right now the items force a horizontal scroll bar. In your example (which is close to what I'm working with) you could have the large (2x2) items resize down to be the same as the 1x1 items and it would be fully responsive without forcing a scrollbar.
I'm also testing a layout with this extension and I've been having a lot of issues with it consuming a lot of CPU.
