Automating chart creation?

I saw the daily quote example and thought how cool it could be to automate the chart creation that happens when you paste a list of numbers, is that somehow accessible from the existing API?

It would also be cool to be able to transclude the dataset from a markdown page, without going through the manual pasting phase.
