Is there a way to access recent edited files in Micro itself?

No, but it could be implemented in a plugin. For example @Gavin-Holt's micro configuration (https://github.com/Gavin-Holt/MyMicro) has some kind of recent files handling. I can't speak for it as I haven't tried it, and it's Windows only, but you could take a look at the code and implement something similar yourself.
