Bioregional Knowledge Commoning

This repository is a shared workspace for bioregional knowledge commoning at multiple scales: reusable foundations, interoperable protocol guidance, and active pilots.

Purpose

  • Build practical, federated approaches to bioregional knowledge sharing.
  • Support ontological commoning and knowledge sovereignty.
  • Incubate pilots that can inform broader commons infrastructure.

Relationship to Upstream Projects

BKC applies upstream coordination grammar and intelligence patterns to bioregional knowledge commoning:

  • Spore — coordination grammar, federation protocol, claims/evidence/attestation patterns, learning membrane
  • Intelligence Commons — retrieval and memory layer abstractions, grounding/evidence primitives, agentic control patterns

BKC is the primary proving ground where these patterns make contact with real operational commitments and generate genuine evaluation evidence. The boundary: Spore defines the grammar, IC defines the intelligence patterns, BKC applies both to bioregional knowledge sovereignty.

Architecture Layers

This repository uses a three-layer model:

  1. Pattern Language (human layer)
  • Reusable social and governance patterns for commoning.
  1. Meta-Protocol (thin interoperability layer)
  • Minimal machine commitments: what is shared, who attests, who can use/how.
  1. Reference Profiles (implementation layer)
  • Optional concrete serializations such as CommonsChange.

Key Resources

Collaboration Workflow

  1. Open an issue using .github/ISSUE_TEMPLATE/ and specify layer impact.
  2. Propose changes via pull request.
  3. For material pilot decisions, log accepted decisions in the relevant pilot decision log.
  4. Use pilot review checklists for structured multi-steward review.
