Academic research

  • Somach: Silent Speech Interface: Redefining HCI by capturing "subvocalization" using ~$30 hardware; recreating MIT's Alter Ego using commodity heart sensors.
  • Padayon Ko: Semantic Search for Scholarships: Implemented high-dimensional vector embeddings to match student profiles with funding, securing $95,050+ for myself, the first user.
  • Pareto-Optimal Models for Low-Cost EMG Control: arXiv:2601.06516, live since January 2026. 18 models, 1.54M datapoints, showing simple models are Pareto-optimal for real-time EMG gesture recognition on low-cost microcontrollers. One live preprint; two further manuscripts are in preparation and not yet submitted.
  • Hyperbolic Infrastructure Agent: Won Coinbase Hackathon + $1,000 commission for "Rent 8 H100s" voice bot; 20x provisioning speedup.

Building now

Two Delaware C corporations I founded and run:

  • Somach Systems, Inc. — voluntary silent-speech input. A wearable that reads the muscle activity of speech you articulate but never voice, and turns it into text. Evidence so far: a $35 two-channel sEMG rig, 4,033 CSV files, 1.54M datapoints, and a six-class classifier at 51.8% ± 2.8% (N=1).
  • The Mildly Useful Company — small tools that do one thing. First product shipped: Bottomless, a Chrome extension that captures a full page in one render pass, roughly 100x faster than scroll-and-stitch.

2026 in systems

Most of this year went into the operating system for my own work, then into writing it down. 40 case studies, each with what forced the architecture and the mistakes worth keeping. A few:

Life OS 53 scheduled agents with a zero-dependency dead-man's switch on separate hardware. Built after every automation I owned failed silently for five weeks while a wrapper printed a green checkmark and exited 0.
Voice to Obsidian Fully local capture: MLX Whisper at 22x real time into a 31B extractor into a task graph. Designed against a habit tracker that scored 0/7 for twenty straight weeks, so nothing in it needs daily upkeep.
Blackout A privacy console for nine recorders on my own machine, with no bare "off" in its state model. Written because the control I had reported success for work it never did.
recall A memory index where a 12-week behavioural simulation proved three of my tuning constants wrong, including one "tiebreaker" that was changing the top result for 28% of queries.

Paper 1 in progress: a volume-conductor model asking which speech muscles are visible from behind the ear. The answer is a negative result, and reporting it as one is the point.
