Description

Up arrow explicitly sorts ascending, down arrow explicitly sorts descending. Each arrow is independently clickable with no ambiguous toggle behavior.

Motivation

Previously, table column sorting used a single-click toggle behavior on the entire sort icon area. This created ambiguity because:

  • Unclear initial state - Users saw both up and down arrows but clicking anywhere cycled through states unpredictably
  • First sort direction- It wasn't super obvious which direction you'd get on the first click
  • Cognitive overhead - Users had to remember the current state to predict what clicking an arrow would do
  • Multiple clicks needed - Getting to a specific sort direction often required clicking multiple times and hoping you landed on the right state

This change makes sorting explicit and predictable. Now each arrow is independently clickable and does exactly what it shows - up always means ascending, down always means descending. Users get the sort direction they want with a single, intentional click.
