Description

This is the winning project (Champion) developed by the representatives of STI Ortigas-Cainta during the Tagisan ng Talino 2025 CodeFest – Cluster 1. Competing against the representatives of other STI Colleges, the team built this app in just 6 hours inside a computer laboratory at the academic building. The app was conceptualized, developed, and awarded all on the same day, April 4, 2025. The project showcases rapid development, teamwork, and innovative problem-solving under intense time pressure.

Problem Statement

SkillSwap - Learn, Teach, Connect

Many people have valuable skills but struggle to find others who can benefit from their knowledge. Similarly, people seeking to learn new skills often have trouble finding local mentors or learning opportunities.

A mobile app that connects people who want to learn with those willing to each would help foster community-driven education and networking.

Requirements

  1. Develop a mobile app that allows users to offer and request skill-sharing sessions across various categories.
  2. The app shall consists of two (2) main menus:
    • Skill Categories
      • Technology & Coding
      • Arts & Crafts
      • Fitness & Wellness
      • Language & Communication
      • Business & Finance
    • Skill Listings (Alphabetized list of all available skills (not categories) and mentors)
  3. The following are the featured skills offered in each category:
    • Technology & Coding
      • Intro to Python
      • Web Development Basics
      • How to Set Up a Smart Home
    • Arts & Crafts
      • Digital Illustration for Beginners
      • DIY Home Decor
      • Calligraphy & Hand Lettering
    • Fitness & Wellness
      • Meditation Techniques
      • Strength Training for Beginners
      • Basic Yoga Poses
    • Language & Communication
      • Conversational Spanish
      • Public Speaking & Confidence Building
      • Writing a Resume that Stands Out
    • Business & Finance
      • Basics of Stock Market Investing

  4. Below are the app's required features and functionalities:
    • Skill Listings & Profiles
      • Users can browse available skills, read descriptions, and view mentor profiles.
      • Each listing includes details such as skill level, estimated learning time, and contact options.
    • Skill Exchange Request
      • Users can request a session with a mentor.
      • Sessions can be in-person or virtual, based on user preference.
    • Favorites & Saved Skills
      • Users can bookmark skills they are interested in learning later.

Notes:

  • No booking or reservation system required - users simply browse and request learning sessions.
  • The app focuses on knowledge sharing and mentorship, not paid tutoring.
  • You can use the images and branding materials for each skill category found in the provided Resources folder.
