Also removes the unsafe cast in the sending event. A modern instanceof cast should be used instead.
This better handles disconnecting.

Fixes a race condition where packets would be sent while the channel was not open. Also allows disconnecting players with a message while they are not connected yet. Also does a few smaller refactors.
