mandeldots

Public repository for mandeldots, an M-and-J drawing program with dots for the postcritical set

This program was vibe-coded by Jeremy Kahn, using Claude Code Opus 4.7 or 4.8. It's hosted on Google Cloud and you can play with it at mandeldots.web.app. You're also welcome to fork it--if you add a cool new feature, send me a pull request!

The dots (that give the program its name) represent the orbit of the critical point 0 of z |-> z^2 + c. You can make them go faster or slower, and change the number that appear at once. This allows you to work out the Hubbard tree of a map with an attracting cycle. If you zoom in a lot in the Julia set (for example, if the map is renormalizable), then faster dots with a longer queue will allow you to see the return map to the zoomed-in region.
