Significantly expand the cam-kp resource page from a minimal stub to a comprehensive entry with detailed documentation.

CAM-KP Overview:

  • Web service knowledge graph integrating causal biological and chemical models
  • Part of NCATS Biomedical Data Translator initiative
  • Combines Gene Ontology CAMs, Reactome pathways, and CTD chemical-gene interactions

Data Content:

  • 750,000+ Gene Ontology annotations from 150,000+ publications
  • Complete Reactome pathway models converted to causal representations
  • 3.8 million chemical-gene interactions from CTD (17,700+ chemicals, 55,400 genes)
  • RDF triplestore with OWL 2 reasoning over 39+ integrated ontologies

Access Methods:

  • SPARQL endpoint (stars-app.renci.org/cam/sparql)
  • TRAPI-compliant REST API (cam-kp-api-dev.renci.org/1.2.0/query)
  • Automat platform integration (automat.renci.org/#/cam-kp)

Products:

  • SPARQL endpoint for semantic queries
  • TRAPI REST API for programmatic access
  • Automat interface for knowledge discovery
  • GO-CAM, Reactome, and CTD model representations
  • Comprehensive API documentation

Key Features:

  • Semantic web standards (RDF, OWL, SPARQL)
  • Biolink Model compliance for universal schema
  • Integration with Translator ecosystem
  • Support for mechanistic hypothesis generation
  • Applications: drug discovery, toxicology, environmental health

Organization:

  • Led by Jim Balhoff (RENCI)
  • Hosted at RENCI, UNC Chapel Hill
  • Funded by NCATS/NIH
  • Archived May 23, 2024; service remains operational

Standards & Interoperability:

  • Biolink Model standardization
  • TRAPI compliance for federated querying
  • OBO Foundry ontologies (39+ integrated)
  • JSON-LD for semantic context
