CUE sheet

Structure

A CUE file is actually a plain text file, but no prefer codec, that means this is a fucking problem for you to guess the text codec.

The syntax of CUE sheet is simple:

Command + Parameters

Each line starts with a command, it must be a uppercase-letter-word, like TITLE, TRACK and REM. And all the left texts are the parameters of this command.

Commands Syntax

You can find the standard explainations on the Wikipedia page above. We add the most usable commands here and some comment-commands that have been wild used.

Essential commands

• FILE "filename.suffix" type

This command record the name and type of the audio file. In Mu, if the file recorded here is not exist, mu will check whether there's a file in the same type and the same name of the cue sheet.

• TRACK XX AUDIO

After the file there should be a lot of TRACK commands, each TRACK follows a number and the type of this track.

The number is track index. The type should be AUDIO. In the TRACK, there should be at least one INDEX command.

• INDEX XX hh:mm:ss

This command records the start or the end time of the track.

If the INDEX follows a 00 means this INDEX command record the start time of the TRACK. If follows 01 means this INDEX recorded the end time of the TRACK.

Each TRACK must contains one INDEX 01 command. INDEX 00 is optional, but it is recommend.

CD-Text and other metadata commands

• REM [Plain text]

Adds a comment that usually has no bearing on the written CD at all, with the exception of some applications that use it to store additional metadata(like Exact Audio Copy).

• TITLE "title of the track"

The title of the TRACK.

• PERFORMER "artist of the track"

The artist of the TRACK.

• SONGWRITER "song writer of the track"

The song writer of the TRACK.

REM comments command

• REM GENRE "genre"

The genre of the TRACK, follows a string with quotation.

• REM DATE "yyyy"

The year or the date that this CD began to sell.
