Who Wants to be a Millionaire - Game Simulation

A JavaFX-based simulation of the popular TV game show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"

Game Overview

Test your knowledge and try to win €1,000,000 by answering 15 multiple-choice questions of increasing difficulty!

Game Rules

Question Structure

  • 15 multiple-choice questions (A, B, C, D)
  • Questions increase in difficulty
  • Each correct answer increases your prize money

Prize Scale

The prizes progress as follows:

  1. €100
  2. €200
  3. €500
  4. €1,000
  5. €2,000 (🔒 Safe Level 1)
  6. €4,000
  7. €8,000
  8. €16,000
  9. €32,000
  10. €64,000 (🔒 Safe Level 2)
  11. €125,000
  12. €250,000
  13. €500,000
  14. €750,000
  15. €1,000,000 🎉

Safety Nets

  • Question 5 (€2,000): First safety level
  • Question 10 (€64,000): Second safety level

If you answer incorrectly after reaching a safety net, you leave with that amount. If you fail before the first safety net, you leave with nothing!

Lifelines (Use Once Each)

  1. 50:50 - Eliminates two incorrect answers, leaving one correct and one incorrect
  2. 📞 Phone a Friend - Get advice from a "friend" (simulated)
  3. 👥 Ask the Audience - See how the audience votes (simulated poll results)

Your Options for Each Question

  1. Answer - Select A, B, C, or D
    • Correct: Move to the next question
    • Incorrect: Game over, return to last safety level
  2. Use a Lifeline - Click any available lifeline button
  3. Stop and Take the Money - Walk away with your current winnings

Features

Visual Design

  • Dark, elegant theme inspired by the TV show
  • Color-coded elements:
    • 🟡 Gold accents for titles and highlights
    • 🔵 Blue for current question
    • 🟢 Green for correct answers and safe levels
    • 🔴 Red for incorrect answers
    • 🟣 Purple for lifelines

Prize Ladder

  • Located on the right side
  • Shows all 15 prize levels
  • Highlights:
    • Current question (blue glow)
    • Safe levels (green background)
    • Achieved levels (lighter green)

Interactive Elements

  • Hover effects on all buttons
  • Visual feedback when selecting answers
  • Animations showing correct/incorrect answers
  • Disabled state for used lifelines

How to Run

Prerequisites

  • Java 21 or higher
  • Maven (or use the included Maven wrapper)

Running the Game

Using Maven wrapper (recommended):

./mvnw clean javafx:run

Or using IntelliJ IDEA:

  1. Open the project
  2. Run the Launcher class or HelloApplication class

Game Flow Example

Scenario: You're on Question 12 with €250,000 at stake

  • You've already secured €64,000 (Question 10 safe level)
  • Options:
    • ✅ Answer correctly → Move to €500,000
    • ❌ Answer incorrectly → Leave with €64,000 (safe level)
    • 🛑 Stop → Leave with €250,000
