Hi, I'm Simon — a multidisciplinary autodidact, software developer and technology enthusiast from Bavaria, Germany.
My background spans mechatronics, manufacturing, logistics, SAP, data analytics, process automation and software engineering. Over the years, I have worked with a broad range of technologies and programming languages, including Go, Rust, C, JavaScript/TypeScript, PHP, SQL, R and DAX.
Today, my main interests are AI engineering, information retrieval, RAG systems, data processing, mapping/GIS, backend development and embedded systems. Go is still one of my favorite languages, particularly for building small, efficient and understandable systems without unnecessary dependencies.
I enjoy building things from scratch to understand how they work — from databases, search and retrieval systems to routing engines, LLM tooling, map infrastructure and embedded projects.

- AI & Retrieval: RAG, ranked retrieval, embeddings, LLM tooling and local AI
- Mapping & GIS: OpenStreetMap, routing, geodata processing and navigation
- Backend Engineering: Go, Rust, APIs, databases and high-performance data processing
- Embedded Systems: Raspberry Pi, microcontrollers, sensors and electronics
- Data & Automation: SQL, analytics, logistics, SAP and process automation
- Open Source: small tools, experimental software and learning by building
- Photography: especially aerial, landscape and documentary photography
One of my larger private projects is Karte.Bayern, an independent mapping, search, routing and navigation platform based on OpenStreetMap and open geodata.
Besides software development, I'm interested in photography, electronics, generative AI and pretty much everything related to STEM.
I am also a deputy fire brigade commander.
My interest in generative AI also led me to experiment with AI-assisted literature and publish the book Künstliche Literatur: Kurzgeschichten aus der Welt der KI.
