The Battle for New York · Live Food Delivery Atlas

An interactive data story visualizing the 3-year battle for market share among three major US food delivery platforms — DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub — across the New York metropolitan area.

What's inside

  • 5,500+ real NYC restaurants plotted on an interactive Plotly map
  • 3.1 years of expansion data, animated month by month
  • Restaurant first-seen dates from Dashmote's global food delivery dataset
  • KPIs: DoorDash's +96% US growth, 319M restaurants tracked globally

Live demo

Visit the GitHub Pages site to explore the interactive visualization.

Tech stack

  • Python — data extraction and processing
  • Plotly.js — interactive map and time-based animation
  • HTML / CSS3 — custom layout, animations, and dark-themed UI

Context

This visualization was produced during my Data Analyst internship at Dashmote, a Dutch B2B SaaS company that provides location intelligence services to FMCG brands such as PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Nestlé, and Heineken.

It demonstrates the practice of "telling business stories with data" — turning raw store-level data into a narrative that helps brand strategy teams understand market dynamics in the on-trade channel.
