Agenda

  • Update on metrics dashboards
    • Augur/8knot and grimoire are up and running, though with some missing bits yet.
    • To deploy the UCSC OBR tool (we don't calculate the metrics only to visualise)
  • Update on stakeholders mapping
    • Spent time adding sticky to a RICE like board in MIRO, stakeholders vs activities.
  • Update on local events
    • Linux User Group well attended, most of the people from SLADE
  • Update on network interactions (CHAOSS, CURIOSS, ...)
    • ATI also part of CURIOSS 🎉

    • Nothing to report. We will try to pitch the OSPO to ISD after the Easter break.

  • Update on Metrics
    • UCL-ARC organisation being an enterprise is producing problems for download metrics
    • Augur is still not re-up but anticipating similar problems.

    • Presented 3 weeks ago The office of open science and scholarship. No clear outcome from there
    • To present to ISD in April to Ben Hine and Architects.

    • Summary talk at ARC Forum next Tuesday.

    • Latex User Group: Hackathon last week to update the branding.
    • Linux User Group: Accepted sustainable event 11/March, and LUG summer party in UCLEast in June with Slade.
    • Tristan (CS): Will be sending a person to join us
    • Lucy - how a PRISM can help? To meet with David and plan how to proceed.

    • Draft completed. Awaiting reviews
    • Send to panel on the 3rd of Feb; presented on 10th.

    • CURIOSS Gathering: Shared Business case with community as they offered to provide feedback. Meeting in two weeks
    • CHAOSS: University WG being stopped in favour of CURIOSS calls.

    • Latex User Group: Hackathon in mid-Feb to update latex templates to new branding

    • Condenser down, so it's probably not running at the moment

    • Drafts for the definition of OSPO + list of activities
    • Governance: probably to base on what we have on UCL and ask what other OSPOs do.
    • CERN OSPO has a good mandate. With people from different groups

    • Working on the Pathways. Working throughout next day
    • CURIOSS Gathering: Dublin 4-5 Feb. Dragon-zen style for our business case.

November - 2025-11-26

Agenda

  • Update on metrics from the OSPO seed project

    • Sam presented to ISD on the 12th of November - ISD Change and Digital Showcase Demo. No engagement
    • Metrics are still being running, and more repositories could be added.

  • Update on business case progress

    • Very small progress so far. Added a section on the results from the seed project
    • Planned to add an English linter on the repository (#64)

  • Update from CHAOSS or CURIOSS calls

    • CHAOSS University Working Group:
      • writing up a paper on the usefulness of OSPOs. Still a draft.
    • CURIOSS:
      • Pathways working group created, David is on it. Starts next week when we decide what it will be focus on.
    • Licenses and copyright notice question. "How is suggested that Universities are credited on Copyright notices?" Most of oss created in universities will have the name of the author, however that author may leave, whereas the IP is still kept by the University.
      We haven't received an answer from anyone yet, but some resources have been shared.

    • stand
      • we had decided to don't submit a proposal as UCL. However, we've planned to make it a proposal as Soc of RSE and SSI combined. This was rejected.

  • Update on metrics from the OSPO seed project
    • 980 repositories being scraped.
    • Some problems with the tools, but contributing in particular to Augur to it and discovering problems that they didn't realise they had.
    • We have some data, but some info (charts) is missing.
    • GitHub dashboard only tracking UCL & UCL-ARC
    • Augur and Grimoire are tracking many more organisations and repositories
  • Update on business case progress
    • Skeleton uploaded, now we need to fill the gaps
      • making a list of what OSS we created or contribute to
      • how we push for OSS vs Closed source in the products we use as UCL
      • Deliver IT systems reliably on OSS - long-term culture change in procurement thinking

      • OSPO: discussion about complexity and criticality of projects.
      • Augur:
        • RedHat uses Augur a lot. Discussing the problems we are facing (they too). Also fixing our problems.

    • AI submissions
    • FOSS in education (assignments, company paying for features, community awards/badges,) - careful to avoid impacting maintainers.
    • OSS licenses - fossology produces sbom; CGAL - double license (GPL + commercial); FFTW does the same process.
    • Chatting Google's OSPO lead.

    • Proposal for devroom: Decided against to try it now. We need a community before hand. Pot
    • Stand: advertise UCL as what? (projects, job opportunities). No stand but we can have leaflets.
