xCAT Compat

Compatibility files for provisioning older platforms with xCAT.

Ubuntu ppc64el netboot initrd

Ubuntu 14.04 through 16.04.1 shipped server ISOs with a ppc64el initrd that could not PXE boot. The xcat-compat package provides netboot-capable initrd files extracted from Canonical's official mini.iso images.

Starting with Ubuntu 16.04.2, the standard server ISO includes a netboot-capable initrd. This package is not needed for 16.04.2 or later.

Installation

Install this package only if you need to provision Ubuntu 14.04 or 16.04.0-16.04.1 on ppc64el systems:

# RPM-based systems
yum install xCAT-compat

# DEB-based systems
apt install xcat-compat

When copycds detects an affected Ubuntu ISO, it will automatically use the initrd from this package. If the package is not installed, copycds will print an error with installation instructions.

License

EPL-1.0 (xCAT packaging). The initrd files are Canonical's work, distributed under Ubuntu's standard license terms.
