Closes #314

Return realtime connection status/error directly instead of updating local variables.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Refactor
    • Improved how connection status and error information are accessed, making them reflect the real-time state directly without maintaining redundant local state.
    • Simplified internal logic for handling connection state changes, resulting in a more streamlined and reliable experience.

Walkthrough

The changes refactor how ConnectionStatus is constructed from ARTRealtimeConnectionState by replacing an initializer with a static method. In DefaultConnection, the status and error properties are now computed directly from the underlying realtime connection, eliminating redundant local state and simplifying event handling logic.

Changes

Cohort / File(s) Change Summary
ConnectionStatus Mapping Refactor
Sources/AblyChat/Connection.swift
Replaced the init(from:) initializer in ConnectionStatus with a static method fromRealtimeConnectionState(_:) for mapping from ARTRealtimeConnectionState. No change to mapping logic.
DefaultConnection State Handling
Sources/AblyChat/DefaultConnection.swift
Changed status and error from stored to computed properties reflecting the realtime connection state. Removed local state assignments and updated event handler to use the new static method.

Assessment against linked issues

Objective Addressed Explanation
Connection updates status only when at least one active subscriber presented (#314, ECO-5431) The refactor simplifies state handling but does not explicitly implement subscriber tracking logic.

Poem

A bunny with code so neat and tight,
Hopped through connections, making them light.
No more state to store or keep,
Just computed fields that never sleep.
With every hop, the status flows,
As realtime logic simply grows!

    • @coderabbitai read src/utils.ts and explain its main purpose.
    • @coderabbitai read the files in the src/scheduler package and generate a class diagram using mermaid and a README in the markdown format.
    • @coderabbitai help me debug CodeRabbit configuration file.
