AsciidoctorJ PDF is a convenient repackaging of Asciidoctor PDF for use with AsciidoctorJ, which brings the Asciidoctor ecosystem to the JVM.
AsciidoctorJ PDF only packages the Asciidoctor PDF gem and its dependencies, it does not depend on a specific JRuby version. At runtime, the gems are loaded by the JRuby version provided by AsciidoctorJ (or the one you declared in your build).
AsciidoctorJ PDF is tested against JRuby 9.4.x and JRuby 10.x.

JRuby 10.1.2.0 is not supported.
This version bundles psych 5.5.0 which fails to read YAML files packaged inside a jar (uri:classloader: resources), such as the ones from the prawn-icon gem.
Use JRuby 10.1.1.0 or wait for JRuby 10.1.3.0, see jruby/jruby#9727.
