Summary

implement StorageBackend interface with a default InMemoryBackend
refactor MemoryIndexerDatabase to use StorageBackend for persistence
export backend helpers from indexer module

Testing

./scripts/configure.sh (fails: GET https://registry.npmjs.org/... 403)
npm test (fails: 52 tests failed)
