Background - What's a CPR framework?

A CPR (which stands for Context, Purpose and Results) is a mechanism to declare the outcomes and intentions of any activity, whether it's planning your day, or guiding a massive project involving hundreds of people over several years. To create a CPR, you start with writing the RESULTS. It's best to write the results in the past tense, as if they'd already occurred. Indeed, when a project is complete, it's often quite remarkable to stand in the present, "checking off" results written into the future from the past.

CPR framework is also great for teams, as it provides a common goal for a group of individuals to collaborate together towards a shared vision of what has to be accomplished.

Results:

Standing in a distant future and looking back at the first Garden City Ruby Conference in January 2014, I see the following results were accomplished:

  • The conference built on the successes of the annual RubyConf India conferences over the past 4 years, and paved the way for bigger RubyConf India events as well as inspired the spawning of numerous City/Regional annual ruby conferences in India.

  • The conference went very smoothly, with very little or no deviation from the published schedule.

  • The conference succeeded in making Bangalore Ruby Community carve out a bigger name for itself in the global ruby community.

  • The participants were left inspired & excited to be part of the ruby community in Bangalore & India.

  • Many of the participants fell in love with ruby programming language and ruby community in Bangalore & India. In some cases, all over again!

  • Speakers had a great time presenting, and were extremely happy about the way they were treated & received- by the organizers, volunteers, and the participants.

  • The organizers & volunteers had a huge sense of accomplishment on making the conference a super success!

  • Food & drink at the conference were awesome.

  • Omissions, mistakes, last minute crises, etc. did come around, but were handled with ease, with everyone - the organizers, the volunteers, the participants, the speakers, the hotel staff - doing what was required to be done at that moment to handle the situation.

  • Conversations had at the conference laid the platform for the birth & growth of a few of India's most valuable companies over the next few years.

  • The conference inspired a few to take on bigger challenges and go on to grow in stature to be seen as India's Jim Weirich & Aaron Patterson. The conference also catalyzed & nurtured the necessary cultural changes required for such a development to happen much sooner than later or never.

  • It was a breakthrough event for women rubyists in India; the event inspired a significant jump in the number of women speakers & participants at ruby conferences in India going forward.

  • The conference was a financial success. The sponsorship funds raised covered the expenses of the event as well as helped in organizing a couple of community events in Bangalore after the conference.

Purpose:

The purpose of Garden City Ruby Conference 2014 is to encourage and foster the growth of ruby community in Bangalore & India by providing a quality platform for rubyists to meet & learn from each other so that they are left inspired to take the love of ruby into uncharted territories!
