This milestone includes issues and discussion related to BIOM Format 2.0.0, which is necessary in order to have the BIOM project scale to tables of increasing size (e.g., thousands of samples and millions of observations). The milestone will include changes to the format itself (moving away from a JSON-based format), as well as changes to the supporting software. In addition to issues under this milestone, discussion/notes will also take place on the publicly-editable [BIOM Format wiki](https://github.com/biom-format/biom-format/wiki/_pages). All users, developers, collaborators, and adopters are invited and encouraged to give input as we shape the future of the BIOM project.
