While this script might still work, it hasn't been maintained for the last 7 years. For a more recent alternative, try https://github.com/matlink/gplaycli.
@bluemutedwisdom: please consider adding a warning to README (not necessarily phrased this way; you might want to choose other modern alternatives as well). And thank you for your work back then :)
