What's the problem of having it on root ?
Removing it will mess up with the GitHub pages default url.

We need it to store past benchmarks results, like navigator-rs.

why is that related to the docs ? They can exist on the same path.

It's the same solution we did on navigator-rs, there we access data with /dev/.. and doc on it's folder.
It's easier to maintain, fetch to gh-page and save/show next features like criterion reports.
