What does this signal do? Why is it needed?

It reboots the Picolo eletronic, and it is needed to fix a saturation error that occurs every once in a while during a triggered acquisition using this device.

It reboots the Picolo eletronic, and it is needed to fix a saturation error that occurs every once in a while during a triggered acquisition using this device.

Is this saturation error well understood? Do we have an idea what this "every once in a while" physically entails for the device? I'd like to add this information somewhere in this repository, so people trying to use this device know how to do so.

It's not well understood, the GIE group is still investigating it. This PV is needed for a workaround while this problem is being solved.

I understand now that this issue was recently discovered and it was agreed between groups that provisionally this would be solved in the orchestration layer. However, can you please document somewhere how this is used? Something like "Signal used when reading saturation is detected with the <signal> signal, to reboot the electronic and avoid dropping readings during acquisition, "

This was done because the Reboot PV doesn't have a readback
to indicate if the reboot procedure has finished.
With the knowledge that the reboot procedure makes the
picolo electronic to disconnect, the communication state
PV is used in order to detect when the electronic
reconnects, indicating that this procedure has finished.
