### .io, .ly, .biz: making domain name choices unintentionally
While technologists are used to domains ending with `.io` or `.ly`, these can be confusing and hard to remember for many users.

For _most_ users today, `.com` is a clear signifier that something is a web site.

Somewhat longer names ending in `.com` -- for example, www.SouthBendVoices.com instead of www.CityVoice.io -- may be easier to remember for many users. A longer, clearer name also has the added benefit of improving Google discoverability.

The principle here is **talk to your target users before making a domain name decision**. For most civic projects, you the creator are not representative of most of your users.
