Fix checks stderr message prefix to route non-error messages to logger.log. This resolves an issue where the New Container Connection form would stall after a successful process exit due to incorrectly logged erirors.

Fixes #1272.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved command-line stderr logging: messages marked level=error or level=fatal are logged as errors, while other messages are logged normally.
    • Complete lines are logged as they arrive, and any remaining partial line is logged when the command finishes.
    • Blank lines and plain-text stderr output continue to be logged normally, and stderr content remains available in command results.

Walkthrough

execPromise buffers stderr until it receives complete lines, then routes messages to logger.error or logger.log based on their content. It flushes any remaining partial line when the process closes. Tests cover these cases and calls without a logger.

execPromise logs nonblank plain text and level=error or level=fatal messages as errors. It logs blank output and other level= messages normally. It buffers partial lines and routes them when complete or when the process closes. Tests cover these cases and verify that callbacks without a logger do not throw.

Explanation

The title follows the conventional prefix format and names the main change: stderr messages that are not errors are now sent to logger.log instead of logger.error. The raw summary and linked objectives both describe this routing change in src/crc-cli.ts, with tests added in src/crc-cli.spec.ts. The title is specific and does not use vague terms.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The source change buffers stderr and applies the prefix-based routing required by issue #1272. The added tests cover the routing, buffering, close-time flushing, and absent logger behavior. No unrelated change is established.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #1272 requires non-empty stderr messages without a level= prefix, and messages starting with level=error or level=fatal, to use logger.error. Other stderr messages must use logger.log. The current routeStderrLine implementation applies this routing to complete lines and the buffered partial line. However, an empty stderr data value is only appended to buffers and is never routed to logger.log. The tests cover whitespace and non-empty line cases, but they do not cover an empty data value.

Resolution

Route an empty stderr data value to logger.log without calling logger.error. Add a test that emits an empty string and verifies this behavior.

A rabbit hears the stderr stream,
And sorts each line by level’s gleam.
Error and fatal take the error track,
Other lines go calmly back.
A final fragment gets its turn,
Then logs are clear, and forms can learn.

use logger.log, while only level=error and level=fatal messages use

Fix checks stderr message prefix to route non-error messages to logger.log.
This resolves an issue where the New Container Connection form would
stall after a successful process exit due to incorrectly logged erirors.

A stderr data event can contain part of a message or several messages.
If level=info arrives as lev and el=info, this check sends both chunks
to logger.error. If one chunk contains an info line followed by an error
line, the error line uses the info line’s classification. This fix buffers
complete lines, classifies each line, and flushes the final partial line
when the process closes.

Fixes crc-org#1272.
