What changed:

• the app is now packaged as a universal macOS build for both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs
• the host-first SSH model, UI, and Hermes workflows remain the same as v0.4.0

Download HermesDesktop.app.zip, extract it, move HermesDesktop.app to Applications, then open it.

Requirements:

• macOS 14 or newer
• an Intel or Apple Silicon Mac
• SSH already working from this Mac without interactive prompts
• python3 available on the Hermes host

Important:

• the app is still not notarized by Apple, so macOS may require Right click > Open or Privacy & Security > Open Anyway on first launch
• Hermes Desktop uses standard /usr/bin/ssh

Hermes Desktop v0.2.0 adds support for SOUL.md and improves standard macOS window behavior.

Highlights:

• Files now tracks and edits USER.md, MEMORY.md, and SOUL.md
• Overview now includes SOUL.md alongside the other canonical Hermes files
• window resizing and layout behavior have been improved for a more normal macOS experience

Install:

1. Download HermesDesktop.app.zip
2. Double click the zip
3. Drag HermesDesktop.app into Applications
4. Open it

Requirements:

• macOS 14 or newer
• Apple Silicon Mac
• SSH from this Mac already working without interactive prompts
• the SSH host key already accepted once in Terminal for that target
• a normal route from this Mac to the Hermes host, such as LAN, public IP/DNS, VPN, or a Tailscale IP/hostname
• python3 available on the Hermes host

Notes:

• the Mac and Hermes host do not need to be on the same Wi-Fi or local network
• the remote host may still allow password login in general, but Hermes Desktop works best when this Mac can complete the SSH connection without prompts
• Hermes Desktop uses standard /usr/bin/ssh; if your setup works only through tailscale ssh and not normal ssh, that may behave differently in the app

This build is not notarized by Apple yet. macOS may therefore show a warning saying Apple cannot verify that HermesDesktop is free of malware. That is expected for this release and does not mean macOS found malware in the app.

If macOS blocks the first launch:

1. Click Done, not Move to Bin
