Development

npm run dev — starts the dev server (automatically prefers the rich tree.json at the project root)
npm run build — runs prepare-data then builds. The smart script will either copy your local rich tree or download the latest from the repo so the deployed site always has excellent demo data.
Large personal tree.json / rulers.json files are intentionally kept out of public/ (see .gitignore). The live site offers a one-click "Load full rich demo data" experience powered by the root-level files in this repo.

The public demo at https://fornevercollective.github.io/ancestory/ is designed to feel premium and immediately useful — far better onboarding than most genealogy tools.
