Welcome to the CNC-Tool-Setter wiki!
I wanted to see if I could create an inexpensive switched tool setter for my CNC machine.
Typically tool setter or touch off plates require completing a circuit using an aluminum block of some kind which requires clipping an alligator clip to the tool whose stick out length you are trying to measure. I dont like the concept of the tool having to press into the block to complete the circuit. I would rather the tool presses into a spring loaded plunger which breaks a circuit to set the stick out distance. This way we can be assured that if the circuit is not made we eliminate the risk of crashing the machine and breaking the tool.
Do let me know if you are successful in reproducing your own.
This repo contains everything you need to 3d print the parts required. I have also create a circuit diagram the will convert your sensing voltage for the probe input for your CNC machine to expect a normally closed circuit versus a normally open circuit that most probing circuits expect.
Good luck..
