群青財団に関心をお寄せいただき、ありがとうございます。 当財団は、情報通信と海事考古、二つの分野を主な事業に掲げ設立に至りました。 それぞれの分野で私たちが何を目指すのか、ご挨拶を兼ねまして記していきます。

まず、情報通信について触れようと思います。 一昔前にはテレビやラジオ、新聞で得ることが主流であった情報ですが、最近ではソーシャルメディアに頼る場面が日に日に増えてきていると感じます。 一方で、そのソーシャルメディアを運営する企業次第では、今閲覧できている情報へ、将来にわたってアクセスできる保証はないことを多くの方が実感しており、利用者に選択と制御を委ねる「分散型ネットワーク」が話題になっています。 この分野で私たちは、ソーシャルメディアを公共の空間として位置づけ、非営利法人が安定性を担保するネットワークを作り、その上で情報伝達インフラの次なる選択肢となることを目指していきます。 その成果によって、平時だけでなく、緊急時でもネットワークへの安定したアクセスを確保できるような仕組みづくりに、情報事業部として貢献していきたいと考えています。

次に、もう一つの分野である海事考古についてです。 私たちは、日本における歴史的資料や文化財、特に先の大戦に関するものについて、保全状況が十分であるといえる事例はごく僅かであると考えています。 現在は海外の篤志家などの共感によって保護されている事例もありますが、日本にはそれが当たり前であると考え、依存してしまう傾向があります。 自国の歴史や文化は、自国民による不断の努力によって守るからこそ、その価値と意味を持つものです。 その上で、他国の理解と共感を得られるよう、まず日本人である私たちが行動を起こす必要があると考えます。 私たちは、この行動を具体化するために海事事業部を設置し、旧海軍に関連する歴史的資料の中でも、これまで考古の対象ではなかったもの、すなわち博物館などで見ることが無かった品々も含めた保存と継承、この実現を目指していきます。

当財団のモチーフとしている「群青」と「蝶」についても、ここで記したいと思います。 群青は、日本で古来より空の色や海の色として親しまれています。 また蝶は、その生態から世界の至るところで復活や変革の象徴とされてきました。 どんな困難に直面しても、形を変えて何度でも立ち上がり、あらゆる障壁を越えて人と人とが繋がる。 群青財団は、そういう世界に寄与できる財団であると信じています。

最後に、一人でも多くの方がこの趣旨に賛同し、参画して下さることを祈念しまして、挨拶とさせていただきます。

We appreciate your interest in the Gunjo Foundation. The Foundation was founded with two areas of main business: telecommunications and maritime archaeology. Please allow me to take a few moments to extend a warm greeting and to offer some insights into our aspirations in each of these areas.

First, I would like to respectfully address the topic of telecommunications. While television, radio, and newspapers were the main sources of information a decade ago, it seems that the use of social media as a primary source of information is growing. However, it is important to note that the reliability of access to information from social media platforms is not guaranteed, depending on the company operating them. In light of these challenges, the concept of "decentralized networks" has garnered significant attention. These networks empower users by giving them choice and control over their information. In this regard, we are investigating the potential of social media as a public space, with the objective of creating a network by non-profit corporations that could contribute to stability and serve as an alternative option for information transmission infrastructure. We anticipate that our contributions as the Telecommunications Department will play a crucial role in establishing a reliable network access system, ensuring continuity not only during normal circumstances but also during emergency situations.

In the next segment, we will have the opportunity to delve into another fascinating area of study: maritime archaeology. We believe that there are very few examples of adequate preservation of historical and cultural properties in Japan, especially those related to the last war. Although there are currently examples of protection through the compassion of overseas philanthropists and others, there is a tendency in Japan to take this for granted and rely on it. The history and culture of one's own country are valuable and meaningful only when they are preserved through the dedicated efforts of one's own people. We believe that it is our responsibility, as Japanese people, to take action to gain the understanding and sympathy of other countries. In order to materialize this action, we have established the Maritime Department. The department's aim is to preserve and pass on historical materials related to the former Imperial Japanese Navy. This includes items that have not been the subject of archaeology, i.e., items that have never been seen in museums, etc.

I would also like to humbly suggest that the Foundation's motifs, "gunjo blue" and "butterflies," be considered. In Japan, gunjo blue has been associated with the sky and the sea since ancient times. Butterflies have also been a symbol of resurrection and change throughout the world because of their ecology. Regardless of the challenges we encounter, we possess the capacity to adapt and persevere, forging connections that transcend all barriers. We believe that the Gunjo Foundation has the potential to contribute to such a world.

Finally, it is my hope that this purpose will resonate with many and that they will be inspired to participate.
