8.32_Release
- [Perf] In-world overlays that drape on the ground — quest paths, Skill Range Rings, Loot Beacons, Danger Rings and Weather — now read the terrain height straight from the game's heightfield instead of asking the game to recalculate it once per vertex every frame. Large overlays that used to drag the framerate down are now a fraction of the cost.
- [Fix] Skill Range Rings: fixed severe FPS drops while hovering a skill. The rings were re-projected onto the terrain every frame; the draped geometry is now cached and only recomputed when you or your target moves, so inspecting a skill's range no longer tanks the framerate.
- [Fix] Guild Wars no longer crashes when you exit the game with Toolbox loaded.
- [Fix] Quest paths (both custom markers and quest markers) no longer sometimes fail to appear after changing maps — previously this could require a Toolbox restart to recover.
- [Fix] World map: quest markers and other icons no longer show up as blank white squares when Toolbox is injected before Guild Wars has finished opening its data file.
- [Fix] Account Inventory: reduced the delay when loading into the game with the module enabled. Item icons are now loaded from
Gw.daton demand as they are displayed, rather than decoding an icon for every stored item on every map load — which flooded Toolbox's texture-loading threads and stalled load-in. - [Fix] Domain of Anguish: quest pathing now rebuilds its navigation mesh when moving between the outpost and the explorable area, so paths are correct in both.
- [Fix] In-world overlays now draw correctly beneath the in-game interface.
- [Fix] Fixed a crash and cloth/hair physics glitches that could occur when a rotating 3D character model was on screen (such as the hero or character-select panel) with in-world overlays enabled.
- [Fix] Mission map: overlays no longer lag behind the map while you drag it.
- [Fix] Objective Timer: added the Forsaken Tunnels dungeon, fixed the Cathedral of Flames level list, and corrected dungeon level numbering (levels now count from 1 instead of 0).
- [Fix] Added extra safety checks to prevent occasional crashes across the enemy, party statistics and target info windows and in skill handling.
- [Minor] Weather: Sandstorm now only appears automatically in true desert climates (Crystal Desert, Desolation, Istan) instead of all arid regions, and is disabled by default like Fog since it heavily obscures vision.
- [Minor] Pathfinding settings are now found by the settings window's search box.
- [Minor] Launcher: warns when Guild Wars is running under ARM/CPU emulation (e.g. an Apple Silicon or ARM Windows machine), which is unsupported and known to crash texture-pack hooking.
- [Minor] Launcher: the update changelog now shows line breaks correctly instead of stray box characters.
- [Minor] Save and open file dialogs now pre-fill the suggested file name.
8.31_Release
- [New] Danger Rings: draws enemy ground AoE effects (Meteor Shower, Maelstrom, traps, and more) as rings on the ground in the 3D game world — depth-tested against the terrain and drawn under the interface. Ring thickness, fill/rim opacity and whether rings are hidden behind terrain are configurable.
- [New] Loot Beacons: marks dropped loot worth grabbing with a pillar of light in the game world, selectable by item rarity (white/blue/purple/gold/green) and/or trader value, with an option to also beacon items reserved for other party members.
- [New] Skill Range Rings: hover any skill (skillbar, skills window, template previews) to see its ranges drawn on the ground — cast/use range around you, the AoE radius around your target or yourself, earshot for shouts and chants, and spirit/constant-effect range.
- [New] When an item icon isn't present in your local
Gw.dat— common on the Steam release, which downloads game data on demand — the Armory now shows a warning and explains the fix: launch Guild Wars once with the-imagecommand line option to download all game data. A new Troubleshooting section walks through the setup for Steam and standalone installs. - [Fix] Fixed occasional crashing.
- [Fix] Fixed layout bugs with the party window position module.
8.30_Release
- [New] Item icons are now shown in the item's applied dye colour — including combined multi-dye colours — wherever Toolbox draws an item icon, such as the item info window and the Armory piece previews.
- [Fix] Item and skill icons now load directly from the game's
Gw.datfile, so they keep working across Guild Wars updates that shift the game's memory (which broke the previous method). - [Fix] Fixed a crash when opening a skill trainer — the merchant "hold Ctrl for a bulk quote" hint mistook the trainer window for a merchant window and read the wrong field.
- [Fix] Fixed a crash when using
/chestor/xunlaito close the Xunlai storage window. - [Fix] The hero command panel position-memory option added in 8.29 is temporarily disabled — it caused UI drawing glitches and could crash.
- [Fix] Launcher now verifies Windows Defender folder permissions before injecting, so a blocked injection is caught up front with a clear prompt instead of failing quietly.
- [Fix] Toolbox now resolves your Documents folder correctly when Windows Defender Controlled Folder Access is enabled, so settings and crash dumps save to the right place.
8.29_Release
- [New] Weather module: draws weather — rain, snow, ash, fog and overhead clouds — into the 3D game world, occluded by terrain and able to dim the scene with an overcast. Ships with presets (Heavy/Light Rain, Snow, Ashfall, Fog, Sandstorm, Blizzard) and lets you author your own. Optional automatic weather picks conditions from the climate of the region you're in; the new
/weatherand/climatechat commands control it. - [New] Skills: added an "Export HD skill icons as DDS" button to save high-resolution skill icons to image files.
- [New] Launcher: can now allow GWToolbox.exe and Guild Wars through Windows Defender Controlled Folder Access during install, so Toolbox can still write settings and crash dumps to your Documents folder when ransomware protection is on.
- [New] Chat: added
/dropitem <model_id> [quantity]to drop inventory items matching a model id, stack by stack — drops up to the given quantity, or every matching stack when no quantity is given. Only works in an explorable area and skips equipped/customized items. - [New] Hero command panel: you can now choose whether remembered panel positions track the party slot (new default) or follow a specific hero, via a radio in Party Settings.
- [New] Defender detection now extends to gMod and plugin load failures — if Windows Defender blocks one from loading, you get an exclusion prompt instead of a silent failure.
- [Fix] Launcher: the "Couldn't find character name RVA" error is no longer shown when anti-virus / Controlled Folder Access blocks Toolbox from reading the Guild Wars process. You now get a clear anti-virus message pointing at the real cause instead of being told to update the launcher.
- [Fix] Launcher: re-downloading GWToolbox.exe from the website now also updates the installed copy used by desktop shortcuts, so a stale exe is properly replaced.
- [Fix] Launcher: self-update now verifies the new GWToolbox.exe actually landed (and wasn't silently restored or quarantined by anti-virus) instead of re-prompting to update on every launch.
- [Fix] Health widget: the absolute HP readout now uses the agent's own max HP, so it shows a value immediately instead of "-" until a party member damages or heals the target.
- [Fix] Mission map: fixed a crash when the minimap overlay drew while the Minimap module was turned off; mission-map options that require the Minimap are now disabled (with a tooltip) while it's off.
- [Fix] Game Settings: the "hide window buttons" option now applies in every non-windowed mode, not only borderless and fullscreen.
- [Fix] Settings migration: custom minimap agent colours and your friend list now carry across correctly when upgrading from the old
.inisettings. - [Minor] World map: shows a "Calculating path…" indicator while a cross-map route is still being calculated.
- [Minor] Release builds are now code-signed, which should reduce false antivirus warnings over the long run.
- [Minor] Launcher dialogs now show the launcher version in their title bar.
- [Minor] Crash-file write failures now report the actual cause (missing folder, full disk, permissions) instead of only a raw error code.
- [Minor] Plugins: plugin-load error messages now display non-ASCII (e.g. Korean) file paths correctly.
- [Minor] Docs site: headings now have hover-to-copy permalink anchors.
- [Fix] Quest paths now follow raised ground correctly — bridges, monuments, steps and similar props — instead of cutting straight through them at floor height.
- [Fix] Navmesh overlay: fixed phantom walls drawn across flat, walkable seams where two map layers meet, and overlay edges now sit on the terrain (steps included) at their true height.
- [New] Navmesh overlay: added a "Terrain sample spacing" setting controlling how closely the overlay hugs the floor (lower = tighter detail).
- [Perf] Quest pathing is much faster now — try turning "Path recalc distance" (Pathfinding settings) down for a near-instant quest path that keeps up as you move. New installs default to 5.
8.28_Release
- [New] Launcher: GWToolbox.exe now updates itself from GitHub (separately from the DLL) and offers to restart into the new version once the download finishes.
- [New] Launcher: failed injections are now diagnosed — you get a clear Windows Defender / anti-virus prompt (with the folder to exclude) instead of a generic crash, and Wine/Proton/Lutris details are reported when launching on Linux.
- [New] Toolbox now detects when anti-virus quarantines its components at load time and shows an exclusion prompt instead of crashing.
- [Fix] Fixed compatibility with the latest Guild Wars update.
- [Fix] Texture packs (gMod/uMod/Texmod) are no longer lost on restart when stored in the new JSON settings.
- [Minor] Docs site: the search box is now focused automatically when you open it, and the Linux page notes that non-Windows hosts are unsupported.
