Additional notes:

When running Update-WinGetEssentials on older versions it may be necessary to invoke the command a second time using:
Update-WinGetEssentials -Force. This release resolves an issue with this command not re-loading an underlying module, but this will not take effect until the next release. In either case, the issue is minor and can be corrected manually using the manual upgrade process mentioned in the README.
