I'm Justin Charles, a Computer Science student passionate about open source, cloud-native technologies, distributed systems, and building products that solve real-world problems. I enjoy collaborating with developers across the world, contributing to impactful projects, and continuously improving as a software engineer.

The history so far

  • Started programming in 2023, initially learning web development before discovering open source through Hacktoberfest. What began as curiosity quickly turned into a passion for building software and contributing to communities that build technology used by thousands of developers.

  • Won 🥇 1st Place — LNM Hacks 6.0 (January 2024), marking my first major hackathon victory and the beginning of my competitive programming journey.

  • Started contributing to MusicBlocks-v4 through Code for GovTech (C4GT) with SugarLabs, where I built the Masonry Module and contributed several features. I later became an active member of the organization and now serve as a Google Summer of Code 2026 Mentor, helping guide the next generation of contributors.

  • Selected for the Linux Foundation LFX Mentorship 2026, contributing to Kuadrant, a CNCF project backed by Red Hat, where I'm building production-ready policy management interfaces for the OpenShift Console Plugin.

  • Selected for Code for GovTech 2026 (COSS), where I'm building data pipelines for fine-tuning and DPO training of production AI agents using real-world conversational data.

ContriLab - Alongside my friend, I built ContriLab to make discovering and contributing to open source significantly easier.ContriLab brings together Google Summer of Code organizations, Linux Foundation projects, contribution roadmaps, learning resources, natural language repository search, open-source alternatives, and YC-backed open source startups—all from a single platform.

Built with Next.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Prisma, Turborepo, Better Auth, and Playwright, it's our way of giving back to the open source community, with many more features planned.

I've worked primarily with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, Express, Python, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Docker, GitHub Actions, AWS, and Turborepo, while also exploring cloud-native tooling, distributed systems, and modern developer infrastructure.

I've worked with the MERN and T3 stacks, explored C++, Solidity, and Machine Learning. I'm currently locked in for the next six months, practising algorithms, diving deep into CS fundamentals, distributed systems, and learning how to build great AI agents. I also enjoy reading non-fiction and sci-fi books.

Feel free to connect with me on my socials—I'm always open to chat, collaborate on open source, or just geek out over cool technology.
