This project utilizes three interconnected tables—Orders, People, and Returns—to provide a comprehensive view of Superstore's global operations. The Orders table records detailed sales transactions, enabling analysis of product demand, regional performance, and sales trends. The People table contains information on sales representatives, helping assess workforce impact and regional sales effectiveness. The Returns table tracks product returns, offering insights into customer satisfaction and operational issues.
Before analysis, the data underwent thorough cleaning to ensure accuracy and consistency. Missing values in product names, order dates, and returns were addressed; duplicates and discrepancies in sales and representative records were resolved. These preparation steps ensured a reliable dataset for building insightful, data-driven visualizations in Power BI.
After cleaning, the data was transformed for analysis by standardizing formats and calculating key metrics like regional sales performance, return rates, and fulfillment times. Products were categorized by location and quality to reveal regional preferences and return patterns, enabling more detailed segmentation.
To optimize Power BI performance, dimensional tables (e.g., Dim_Categories, Dim_Sub-Categories, Dim_Product, and Dim_Locations) were created by extracting relevant attributes. This reduced redundancy and improved data organization for efficient analysis.
A relational data model was built to integrate the Orders, People, and Returns tables, enabling dynamic filtering and real-time insights in Power BI. This allowed users to explore sales trends, regional performance, and return rates across connected data sources for more informed decisions.
The model uses a snowflake schema, with normalized dimensions like Dim_Sub-Categories linked to Dim_Categories. The central Fact_Orders table stores key metrics such as sales and orders, supporting hierarchical analysis across products, categories, and regions.
The snowflake schema offers key advantages by reducing data duplication and ensuring consistency, especially in large, hierarchical datasets. Its structured design improves Power BI’s loading speed and supports scalability for future data expansion.

Notably, the month with the lowest sales consistently falls in Q1, while the highest-performing month is always in Q4.
Across all years in the dataset, the three markets—APAC, EU, and ES—consistently rank among the top four in terms of sales growth. In terms of Category performance, Technology, Office Supplies, and Furniture rank in descending order based on revenue, profit, and profit margin.
Regarding shipping methods, customers seem to strongly prefer Standard Class delivery, which accounts for approximately 60% of all shipments.
Regardless of the segment, there is an overall decline in the volume of returned products from customers.
Although the EU and ES markets are among the top contributors to the company’s revenue and profit, they also have the highest return rates.
The total revenue lost due to returned items amounts to $820,000 over four years, accounting for approximately 7% of total revenue earned.
Each salesperson represents a specific region and is assigned an individual KPI (approximately 60% of the average revenue per person). Only 3 out of all salespeople did not meet their KPIs.
Regardless of the individual, all salespeople seem to push hard to meet their targets towards the end of the year. This aligns with the company’s overall business trend, where revenue growth shows a strong and consistent increase in the final months.
As for product returns, the return trends are relatively consistent across segments. For instance, if the Consumer segment experiences a dip below 10% in September, the other two segments tend to show similar patterns.
In the Sub-Category breakdown, certain product types such as Copiers, Bookcases, and Phones contribute significantly to both revenue and profit despite accounting for a smaller portion of total orders. On the other hand, categories like Art and Binders generate many orders but low revenue and profit.
